To Kill a Tree

Since the second I saw the sun, my path was ever clear,

I would sprout my being higher, branches from ear to ear,

And for every 10 days of glory, one would set me back,

Of all forms of nature's combat, from every angle an attack,

The sun which gave me life, would threaten my very own,

With hundred days of 100, and not a single drop to show,

But strong as summer gets, the stronger my will became,

And strong as sun could be, it could not stop the rain,

As all would die around me, this hellish sight was seen,

Though w'thout a single cloud to shield me, my leaves would still shine green,

And when your torrential waters would rain arrows at my core,

And turn this once dry land into new Atlantis of yore,

My legs though under water, would budge not a single step,

Your pools and pools of ocean, could not sink me with their depths,

Though drown many creatures your instant rivers did,

My mouth stayed above water, my presence never hid,

And when you got so desperate as to attack me with your ice,

With temperatures unthinkable for any form of life,

Your freezing cold existence did destroy my very arms,

My once green solid branches, now w'thered victims of your harm,

But you forgot something, my nemesis, when last you did attack,

Though colorless and dead my limbs; my roots remained intact,

So I now wait for sunshine, to rebuild my greenleaf dreams,

And choose that time of certain death, but 'til then it seems,

Though many a foe have tried to kill this merely mortal tree,

T'will take a stronger force of nature to kill a tree like me.
